Kontio log homes and villas can be built with traditional laminated logs and with the innovative SmartLog log, which enables challenging structures. There are differences in non-sag logs. Kontio SmartLog is the most advanced non-sag log on the market and its structure is protected by design. SmartLog logs are manufactured from Arctic pine from start to finish at Kontio's factory in Pudasjärvi.

  • Kontio SmartLog™ is a truly non-sag log. The non-sag structure is achieved by the vertical wood slats in the log structure. Kontio SmartLog™ is therefore a truly non-sag log even in varying environmental conditions.

    Kontion SmartLog™ enables the connection of different materials without any settling allowances, which in practice means easier construction and cost savings. It also does not require the adjustment and maintenance measures typical of traditional log buildings. SmartLog™ logs are fastened together with screw dowels and their settlement resistance is achieved immediately during installation.

  • Kontio's non-sag SmartLog™ log is protected by design. Tight construction requires good solutions, and in the SmartLog™ log, the joint seal is placed at the non-sag vertical lamella, ensuring the best material tightness.

    The load-bearing vertical lamella of the log is placed close to the surface of the log, ensuring excellent vertical stiffness and thus the best load resistance.

  • SmartLog™ non-sag log enables very innovative solutions in architecture and building design due to its structure.

    Combining logs with other materials creates new possibilities for interior design and the appearance of a building. Minimalist, modern details without large moldings and adjustment mechanisms are easily achieved with non-sag logs.

  • VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd is one of Europe's leading research and technology organisations, providing research and innovation services that increase international competitiveness for companies and the public sector.

    The load resistance and stiffness of the Kontio SmartLog™ structure were tested by VTT in 2017, and the result of the VTT test showed that the load resistance of Kontio SmartLog™ is excellent .

    Similarly, VTT has tested the air and water tightness of Kontio SmartLog™ log joints and connections in 2017 and the result was also excellent air tightness .

Because Kontio SmartLog™ is a truly non-sag log, you do not have to commit to Kontio factory installation for the construction of your home or villa.

We always recommend choosing a Kontio installation, but if you have construction expertise in your area, Kontio SmartLog™ is just as easy to install, whether you install it yourself or order the installation from us. In addition, Kontio deliveries always come with clear construction instructions.

Easy and safe to install

  • Electrical connections and fastening the logs together with screws are easily achieved using pre-drilled holes. Pre-drilled holes make construction faster and easier.

  • Faster and easier installation work, even indoors, saves construction costs.

Guaranteed to be leak-proof

  • SmartLog achieves an extremely airtight and energy-efficient building.

  • The sealing between the logs is carried out using sealing strips pre-installed at the factory, and there is no need for additional sealing between the logs.

  • The seals are made of polyethylene and, thanks to their structure, remain securely in place even during installation.

  • Polyethylene sealant does not absorb water and does not act as a breeding ground for microbes. It is also non-toxic and dust-free.

  • The seal is optimally positioned at the vertical lamellas. This ensures that the wood's aging does not affect the tightness of the house at any point. This detail is a Kontio design patent and an exclusive feature of Kontio's SmartLog log.

Truly non-sag log structure

  • SmartLog's non-sag resistance is achieved in the only way a truly non-sag log can be produced: by turning some of the log's lamellas vertically. In a traditional laminated log, which does not have vertical lamellas, the wood's sag cannot be removed, for example by drying.

  • In the SmartLog structure, resistance to settlement is achieved immediately during the installation phase, as the vertical wooden slats form a non-settlement structure inside the wood.

  • SmartLog uses metal fasteners only to fasten the logs together. The non-sag property of SmartLog is not based on the load-bearing capacity of the metal fasteners.

  • The SmartLog log frame does not require any adjustment or maintenance after installation.
